4 months old!

It's hard to believe my sweet baby boy is 4 months old! We go to the doctor next week so I don't have the specifics on how much he has grown but I wanted to share his 4 month pictures with you and a video of him tonight during bath time. All smiles :)

New jumperoo pics

Shaun is getting to be quite the pro in his jumperoo. We have to put a pillow underneath him as he's not quite tall enough for his feet to touch the floor. But what used to be 5 minutes of playtime before starting to fuss has now turned into 15 minutes. He has figured out how to turn himself around a little bit and was happy to discover there were toys on all sides! No bouncing yet but I think that's a good thing. Love his face in these pictures as he discovers new things. Such a sweet boy :)

What a week!

This has definitely been a week to remember! This past Monday Mike and I went out to lunch at a sushi restaurant here in Jacksonville. One of our favorites! Well not any more. We both came down with the worst case of food poisoning EVER!!! I was still feeling the effects on Thursday!!! Not the best situation when you are both to weak to walk and your 4 month old decides to have his fussiest week yet! Shaun has been fighting a cold all week so he hasn't been feeling great either. We are all in need of a few days of rest and relaxation. Thank goodness the weekend is here!!!
As for a Shaun update...he will be 4 months next week! We haven't been to the pediatrician since his two month appt so I am anxious to go and see where he stands. He is all smiles these days which has been so much fun for Mike and I. We are still awaiting a true giggle but he makes little laughing noises here and there. We have been working on rolling over and he has done it twice on his own but can't seem to get it down consistently. His sleeping has regressed a bit. Not sure if that is because of a growth spurt or him being sick. Either way, Mike and I are exhausted. Last night was better though. Slept from 9:00-3:00 and just needed the pacifier put back in when we got up at 3:00 to check on him. Slept again until 6:00, ate and then went back down until 9:15. Mike and I needed to sleep in. It felt great! Tonight our friends are going to take Shaun for a few hours so Mike and I can go on our date. We are so excited to get a night out!!!
Wanted to leave you with some recent picture of our smiley boy!

Shaun loves music!!!!

So I have these little speakers that I keep in Shaun's room so we can listen to music. The speakers light up and the past couple of weeks he has just been mesmerized by them. So I sat him in his bumbo with his miniature baby stereo and I think we have found a new way to entertain our little man. ENJOY!

Back to work...

The new year has been quite a busy one for us. I feel like the days and weeks are flying by! I went back to work full time last week and it was a lot tougher than I had expected. I was the woman I promised myself I wouldn't be...the crazy one who cries uncontrollably as she drops her baby off for his first day at daycare. I had to go home and redo my makeup. On day one I was there by 2:00 to pick him up. I just couldn't stand it.
The next two days I was out of town for work and Mike had his first experience taking care of Shaun solo. He did GREAT! Made a very valuable discovery. Shaun has been regressing in his sleep habits the past month or so. I think it was a combo of traveling so much and him being sick. We were back to getting up a couple of times a night. So while I was away, Mike decided he thought the nightlight in Shaun's room was too bright and turned it off. PRESTO! Back to 9 hours straight of sleep ever since. THANK YOU MICHAEL!!!
As for me, it was so hard to be away from Shaun for the night. Not to mention the amount of pumping I had to do was ridiculous. Turns out a baby nurses much more effectively than a pump. I had to pump every 2-3 hours to keep from getting extremely uncomfortable. Not easy to do when you are in the middle of a work meeting!
So needless to say...I missed a pumping session or two. And I paid the price. I ended up with an infection/clog on Sunday of this week. As of today it had been 48 hours and no relief in sight. I was on the internet doing research and trying EVERYTHING! I went to my doctor followed by a lactation consultant and my problem has finally been solved. Who knew you could nurse a baby upside down?!?! No really...I'm serious! The lactation consultant suggested this and it worked like a charm. No more clog and I am a happy camper. The doctor was talking about having it drained if it didn't resolve by Friday. Yikes! Didn't sound like something I wanted to be a part of.
I am in my second full week of work and I feel like I am finally starting to figure out the balance between mom and pharmaceutical rep. Well...maybe not completely figured out but it is better this week than it was last. At least the crying has stopped! Mike and I are both really happy with the daycare we have Shaun at. He is in a room with 7 other newborns and 3 caretakers. They are all so wonderful and have even sent me a picture or two on my phone during the day to let me know how Shaunie is doing. They said Shaun seems to be a happy baby. Never fusses, eats well and is full of smiles. That's my boy!!!
So that's our update for now. I'll leave you with a pic of Shaun in his first hotel room stay! Went to Orlando for one night over the weekend. He is quite the traveler lately! Isn't he getting to be a big boy?!?! Love my little man!

Shaun's 3 month picture!

Wanted to share our three month picture of Shaun! He is almost as big as his elephant now! Our next doctors appt is at 4 months so my measurement for the month isn't going to be quite as accurate but I hopped on the scale with him this morning and he came in at 12.5 lbs. That's a 2 lb gain from last month which would put him right on track. They say the average is a .5lb weight gain per week. Not sure on the length but I know he is getting taller because his pants are all getting shorter :)

Happy New Year!!!

So I've been a little bit of a slacker on keeping the blog updated. We have been out of town for the past two weeks so December was nothing short of hectic. We drove up to Pittsburgh for Christmas to see my family and after one night back at home jumped back in the car to drive down to Tampa and spend the rest of our vacation with Mike's family. It was wonderful to see everyone and spend time with friends and family. Shaun's first Christmas was a definite success!!!
Can you believe Shaun is 3 months old?!?! It has been so much fun to watch him change and grow. He is nothing but smiles these days and we think he is on the verge of a giggle. We are counting down the moments until we can hear our little boy laugh. I can only imagine the smile it will bring to my face. He is quite the wiggle worm these days. We are constantly rotating him from his chair, to his mat, to his swing....he is always wanting something new to look at and discover and it can be quite exhausting at times to keep him entertained.
He got sick for the first time while we were up in Pittsburgh. Mike and I gave him our cold. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch him struggle to breath. He was so stuffed up. After days of sleepless nights, saline drops and a humidifier, he finally came around and seems to be almost back to normal. However, I think him being sick messed up his sleeping schedule. We are back to getting up once a night and it is starting to take its toll. I'm exhausted!!!!
I go back to work full time next week which means the time has come...Shaun starts daycare. I am taking Monday off to spend one more day with Shaun and then Mike and I will take him together on Tuesday morning. More to come on how I handle that one...YIKES!
I will leave you with some pictures from the holiday. Wishing all of our family and friends a safe and happy new year. We look forward to sharing our journey with you as we continue to watch our little boy grow!
